JOB TITLE:            High School Special Education Teacher, 1.0 FTE

REPORTS TO:      Building Principal

 

JOB SUMMARY:

To provide special education services to students with a variety of disabilities in a self-contained classroom setting and general education classes. Instructs students, maintains student discipline and is responsible for student achievement.  Full job description available upon request.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Bachelor’s Degree or higher.
  1. Hold or be eligible for Oregon Teaching Certification with Special Education endorsement.
  2. Ability to establish positive working relationships with students, staff, and parents through an equitable and trauma informed lens.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Master’s degree.
  2. Prior successful experience providing instruction to students with disabilities in general education and special education settings.
  3. Proficient in Trauma Informed Practices and Social Emotional Learning (SEL), including Growth Mindset.
  4. Proficient in the use of educational technology.
  5. Secondary endorsement in core curricular area.
  6. Willingness to work with extra-curricular activities.
  7. Spanish language skills.

SUMMARY OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Develop and implement specially designed instruction for students in areas of assessed need, including life skills.
  2. Develop and maintain a classroom environment conducive to effective learning.
  3. Monitor student progress regularly and provide written reports of progress toward IEP goals to parents in accordance with the District’s schedule.
  4. Collaborate and cooperate with parents and staff members in developing and implementing IEP’s.
  5. Establish and maintain open lines of communication with students, parents/guardians, staff, administrators and relevant community support personnel concerning academic and social/emotional/behavioral progress.
  6. Serve as case manager for students eligible for special education and related services.
  7. Maintain compliance with state and federal special education regulations.

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 190-Day Contract at 1.0 FTE. Based on current SEA salary schedule and negotiated agreement, ($50,073-$101,649 annually) with excellent benefits including Medical, Dental and Vision insurance and Oregon state retirement.  Paid time off includes one sick day per month worked and three personal days, pro-rated per school year.
