JOB TITLE: Translator/Interpreter (8 hours per day average/40 hours per week)
REPORTS TO: Building Principal
JOB SUMMARY: This position serves to improve student achievement and community communications, the Translator/Interpreter (Spanish) will work under the direction of the building administrator to provide written, oral and simultaneous translations/interpretations (English and Spanish) of district and building communications. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma or equivalent. Criminal history clearance (background check and HB 2062). Ability to communicate fluently, verbally and in writing, in English and Spanish – at least Level 7 of language proficiency assessment Proficient in basic computer skills/programs.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Ability to meet Highly Qualified Paraprofessional standards (2 years of college, Associates degree or WorkKeys skills test).
SUMMARY OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide communication services verbally or in writing in Spanish.
- Support administrators on translations, interpretation, and special projects such as training classes, database and web page maintenance.
- Maintain a high level of confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA, FERPA, and adherence to the competent and ethical educator practices.
- Support non-English speaking parents, guardians, and community members.
- Translate a variety of documents for both the community and district-wide audiences.
- Attend meetings, such as IEP meetings, 504 meetings, disciplinary meetings, and/or parent teacher conferences to provide interpretation services to students, staff, and families, as requested.
- Serve as an informational resource to parents, staff, and others concerning school programs, services, attendance issues, and other matters.
- Represents the district virtually and in-person while providing interpretation services over a variety of platforms.
- Performs clerical duties, such as making copies, operating office equipment, and answering telephones.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Temporary through June 20, 2025. 207 work days at 1.0 FTE. Based on current OSEA salary schedule and negotiated agreement, salary pending union approval (code 10 – starting $20.50/hr – $23.64/hr) with excellent benefits including Medical, Dental, and Vision insurance and Oregon state retirement. Paid time off includes one sick day per month worked and three personal days, pro-rated per school year.
