TITLE: Head Cook – 40 hours/week
REPORTS TO: Food Service Supervisor, Business Manager
POSITION SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Food Service Supervisor, coordinates and directs the work of food service personnel in preparing nutritious and attractive meals for students and staff while maintaining a clean kitchen and cafeteria and observing all Health Department regulations to create a safe and healthy work environment.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Criminal history clearance (background and HB 2062).
- Computer skills.
- Have a Food Handler’s Permit, or the ability to obtain a permit upon hire
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Knows and follows all safety and sanitary rules and regulations related to food handling.
- Prepares school meals including participating in the planning, cutting, cooking and preparation of food items.
- Serves student breakfast and lunch.
- Reacts to change in schedule(s) productively.
- Checks freezers, refrigerators and dishwashers ensuring proper operating temperature is being maintained and sanitation standards are being upheld.
- Checks food temperatures to ensure proper standards are being are being upheld before serving.
- Maintains a safe and clean working environment.
- Sets-up and stores equipment used to serve food.
- Washes dishes and operates automatic kitchen equipment maintaining sanitary specifications.
- Assists in maintaining proper care of equipment and sanitation of the kitchen.
- Completed a high volume of computer work in an environment with constant interruptions.
- Computes and maintains accurate inventory, student meal count records, production logs, and any other mandatory paperwork.
- Shuts off, breaks down, and sanitizes designated areas and items.
- Prepares food for the following day.
- Assists in the maintenance of quality and portion control of all food served.
- Maintains a high standard of personal cleanliness and proper grooming as per sanitation code.
- Follows and maintains knowledge of all District policy(ies) and procedures.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Works a school year calendar, approximately 185 days at 1.0 FTE (8 hours per day). Based on current OSEA salary schedule and negotiated agreement, salary (code 8 – starting $17.19/hr – $19.86 /hr) with excellent benefits including Medical, Dental, and Vision insurance and Oregon state retirement.
